Signatures
The Signing Experience
What your recipients go through. The email, consent, identity, signing, and what they can do besides sign.
Your signers never need a Docshark account. Here is exactly what they see.
The email
Each recipient gets an email with your envelope name, your message, and a Review and sign button. The link is personal. It identifies them; forwarding it lets someone else act as them, which the audit trail attributes to that recipient.
Before the document
Depending on the envelope's options, they may pass:
- Identity confirmation. Confirm name/email, or verify the inbox with a code.
- Consumer disclosure, the ESIGN consent screen: they agree to do business electronically and confirm they can access electronic records. The consent is an audited event, signatures without it do not exist.
Signing
- The document opens in the guided signer. Start walks them field to field; a progress indicator shows how much is left.
- Required fields block. The signer cannot finish until every required field assigned to them is filled; optional fields can be skipped.
- Signature fields offer draw / type / upload. Date-signed fields stamp themselves.
- Finish submits their part. They get a confirmation and, at envelope completion, the sealed copy.
What they can do besides sign
The signer's menu carries real alternatives, all audited:
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Save and finish later | Their progress persists; the email link resumes where they left off. |
| Delegate | Hand their signing task to someone else. See decline and delegate. |
| Request changes | Open negotiation. Propose edits instead of signing as-is. |
| Decline to sign | Refuse with a reason. You are notified, the envelope halts. |
| Withdraw consent | The ESIGN right: withdraw agreement to sign electronically. Recorded; the envelope stops for them. |
Expired and voided envelopes
- An expired envelope shows a closed notice. The link still opens, signing does not. Extending the expiry revives the same link.
- A voided envelope shows it was cancelled; the record persists for everyone involved.
After signing
When every recipient finishes, each party gets the sealed PDF. Document plus certificate of completion. The document's integrity is checkable any time at the verification page.
