Transferring Ownership

Handing Docshark workspace ownership to another member. What moves, what the process looks like.

Workspace ownership can move. A founder hands off, an admin rotates, an account gets consolidated. The transfer flow lives under workspace settings.

What ownership controls

The owner is the member who can:

  • Manage the Docshark plan and billing seat.
  • Transfer ownership itself.
  • Perform the irreversible workspace-level actions.

How transfer works

  1. Choose the new owner. Pick a member of the workspace; ownership can only move to an existing member.
  2. Confirm. The action is deliberate: ownership changes are logged, and the previous owner becomes a regular member (unless removed separately).
  3. The record. The transfer is an audited event; the history of who owned what, when, stays on the trail.

What does and doesn't move

  • Moves. The ownership role and its powers.
  • Stays, every document, link, room, envelope, template, and setting. Transfer changes who steers, not what exists. Personal library contents stay personal to their owners throughout, they are scoped to the member, not the role.

Before you transfer

  • Confirm the new owner's account is in good standing. Ownership lands on them immediately.
  • If the goal is leaving the workspace entirely, transfer first, then remove yourself. An owner cannot simply walk out the door while holding it.
